National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses
Entry into the practice of nursing is regulated by each jurisdiction's licensing authority. To ensure public protection, a candidate for licensure is required by each board of nursing to pass the appropriate NCLEX examination, NCLEX-RN for registered nurses and the NCLEX-PN for practical/vocational nurses. These exams are designed to test the candidate's skills, knowledge and abilities which are essential to the safe and effective practice of nursing at the entry-level.
